Rare wool wall hanging designed by Katri Warén-Waris (1898-1976) in the 1930s—beautiful earthy colors - burgundy brown, ochre, blue, violet, yellow, and green hues.
Katri Warén-Waris was educated in the 1910s and did not have training in textile techniques as specialized training in traditional hand weaving was launched only in 1929 at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in Helsinki (est. 1871, now the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture). She prepared pattern drawings and sketches, and in her weaving studio, she had experts in hand weaving to help with the practical work. Design Museum Helsinki features some of Katris' works.
Condition: Good vintage condition according to its age. There's a pocket for the stick on the upper side to hang it, tapestry comes without a wooden stick.
